Who We Are
Highly qualified and motivated health professionals
I’m Darren, one of the founders and Co-Director of FitCheck Clinic Ltd. My career in healthcare started back in 2010 – after qualifying as a nurse, I initially worked on a busy surgical ward before later moving on to be a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Nurse within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. These first few years of acute hospital experience allowed me to acquire and grow in various clinical skills, making me a confident and competent health professional.
I was then able to go on to gain further education and become an Occupational Health Nurse, taking referrals directly from GPs and employers to assess people in order to improve their health or find suitable reasonable adjustments to enable them to comfortably return to their existing working roles. From my time there, I became self-assured as an independent health professional, managing my time, patients, and clinics alone, in addition to working as part of a greater team.
After all of my time in hospital and clinic settings, I was then skilled enough to take on a new, challenging role as a Specialist Nurse in Metabolic Diseases out in the community, covering a large territory across the UK. My job was initially to assess, teach, and treat a large group of patients in their own homes, so they could avoid spending many days out of their lives regularly travelling to far-off specialist hospitals. This role further grew to encompass targeted chemotherapies and other community nursing responsibilities.
After more than a decade on the front lines of healthcare, I decided to focus all my knowledge into clinical education roles instead. I have taught health professionals many topics, such as managing difficult intubations (when patients cannot breathe), to managing renal replacement therapy (when someone’s kidneys are not working), and most recently, staging liver disease.
A constant frustration for me has been the barriers people face in accessing health services quickly and effectively – I know first-hand the negative impact that short staffing and extensive waiting lists can have on people. This isn’t the fault of my fellow hard-working health professionals, but now I am in a position where I have the knowledge and resources to make a difference. Alongside my excellent co-founder, Wendy and our business manager Joe, we have created FitCheck Clinic to give anyone easy access to a health professional and the tests that can help change, improve, and sometimes save people’s lives.
Experienced and skilled health workers from the NHS & private healthcare
Hello, my name is Wendy Constable, and I am the Co-Director of FitCheck Clinic Ltd.
Firstly, thank you for stopping on our webpage to find out more! Let me tell you about myself. Firstly, I am a wife and a mum to one daughter and two dogs. This part of myself I hold very dearly; however, I also wanted to have a career!
My early work life saw me excel in customer service, sales, and training, all of which have helped shape my professional career today.
In 2013 I gained my BA in Education at the University of Glasgow. However, not fully being satisfied in that career, I decided to enter the field of Midwifery. I studied for a BSc in Midwifery in 2014 at the University of the West of Scotland, and I have been a Registered Midwife (NMC Registered) since 2017. It was during this career I developed a passion for the care of people, providing excellent care and support to people during some of the most vulnerable times of their lives.
I worked in NHS Lanarkshire, mostly as a community midwife. I would provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to families. I provided antenatal education and helped mentor student midwives. However, after careful reflection, I decided to take a break from this and in 2021 I stepped out of the NHS and into medical device sales and education.
I have worked for some amazing companies, selling and training on life-saving equipment used all over hospitals in the UK and Ireland, but I knew something was missing. I really missed being clinical and caring for people! Along with Darren, we created FitCheck Clinic – a place in which we can thrive by using our combined skills and passion, along with providing an excellent health and wellbeing service. I now feel complete!
My hobbies outside of work include spending time with my family, walking the dogs, watching a variety of sports, and anything Disney-related! Now let FitCheck Clinic provide you with a solution to enhancing your health and wellbeing.
